Addiction Counseling ... Addiction to Alcohol and/or Drugs is both preventable and treatable. The Couples Counseling Center provides assistance to those who may think they have a problem and to those who have already recognized the problem. Trained professionals can assess and evaluate clients as well as design treatment plans based on individual needs. Use and abuse of alcohol and/or drugs can mask the underlying problems occurring from loss of control. Alcohol and drugs give a false sense of comfort. This is one of the compelling reasons people choose to use them. In time, they become both physiologically and psychologically addictive. The person loses the ability to make good choices because of the effect on the brain. Many people need an intervention to break the old pattern. The loss of control results in a need for some family member to intervene on behalf of the addict. The family system is greatly affected by these shifts in power. Frustration, anger, depression, trust, self-esteem are some of the areas that are negatively impacted by addiction.
